What actually drives the cost
Container transport pricing comes down to a handful of factors. Once you understand them, the quote makes a lot more sense.
1. Distance and location
The biggest single factor is how far the container is travelling, and where. A move within the Brisbane metro area is very different from an interstate haul. Fuel, driver time and tolls all scale with distance, so a cross-town shift and a Brisbane-to-regional move sit at very different price points.
2. Container size and weight
A 20ft container and a 40ft container need different equipment and, in some cases, different permits. A loaded container also costs more to move than an empty one because of the weight and the way it has to be handled.
3. The transport method
How the container is loaded and unloaded matters. A tilt tray (also called a tilt slide) is the common method for a single container on an accessible site. A sideloader (swing lift) can place a container in a tighter spot using its own crane. A crane truck or a flatbed with a separate crane may be needed for difficult access.
